YOUTH TARGET POPULATION

Ujima Rochester/Ujima Atlanta targets youth ages 9-21 who are deemed at risk, hard-to-reach, or currently involved in gangs and/or the juvenile justice system, and who either are voluntarily or mandated participants in the program.

Youth of all socioeconomic, racial and ethnic backgrounds are eligible for the program.

The Leadership & Social Development Program (LSDP) was established to help young men and women address key issues they face during their stages of adolescence and will continue to face as they attain adulthood.  The LSDP will support the Youth in developing a value system that will aid them in making positive choices regarding character building, education, relationships and personal health.  These goals will be reached by following a curriculum that incorporates a series of cultural, academic, physical health, historical reenactments, and social activities.

The values addressed are

·         Self-determination

·         Unity

·         Collective Work and Responsibility

·         Cooperative Economics

·         Purpose

·         Creativity

·         Faith

These principles are centered on issues such as education, anti-violence, sexuality, critical thinking, economics, teamwork, history, and much more.
